Sulfasalazine is an anti-inflammatory medication that belongs to a class of drugs called sulfa drugs.Sulfasalazine is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate ulcerative colitis, as adjunctive therapy in severe ulcerative colitis, and for the prolongation of the remission period between acute attacks of ulcerative colitis. Sulfasalazine is a prodrug comprised of mesalamine and sulfapyridine joined by a diazo bond.
